BookyMobile

What is the BookyMobile®? The BookyMobile is OIC’s library-on-wheels. The BookyMobile travels to communities throughout Central Pennsylvania, distributing books to residents.

Where does OIC get books to give away? Libraries, civic organizations, and community members donate books to OIC for distribution to people who want them. Although we distribute free books year-round at our main campus, we would like to bring the reading experience closer to those who want it most. In our constantly changing collection we have fiction and nonfiction for adults and young readers, as well as children’s picture and activity books.

Where did the BookyMobile come from? The idea for the BookyMobile came about when students and graduates told us they wanted to expand their learning at home. In response, OIC developed a way to encourage Reading For Life. In 2007, we were able to acquire a trailer and convert it to the BookyMobile learning center. The BookyMobile has gone directly into communities and neighborhoods to distribute books and learning materials to anyone who wants them.

What is the future of the BookyMobile? The possibilities are limitless. The BookyMobile can go anywhere people are interested in learning—community fairs and festivals, local churches, schools, community centers—and offer books and reading experiences to individuals and groups throughout Central Pennsylvania.

How can I get the BookyMobile to visit my neighborhood? If you would like to arrange for the BookyMobile to visit your neighborhood or community, contact Jeffrey Woodyard at 238-7318.
